New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has passed a law that bans minors from using commercial tanning beds. The law, dubbed “Tan Mom Law” was “inspired” by a fifty-year-old woman who was accused of taking her child into a tanning bed with her.

“The new restrictions imposed by this bill followed a single but breathlessly reported incident of a parent bringing a minor child into a tanning facility,” said Governor Christie.

New Jersey already has a law that bans anyone under the age of 14 from using the tanning beds or getting spray tans, but the new law extends the age limit. The law also states that anyone under 17 must have a parent or guardian present for an initial consultation with a tanning salon.
