Half Million Fillipinos Working in Prostitution
A recent United Nation’s project recently reported that over 500,000 Fillipinos are working in the country’s sex industry as prostitutes, according to The Philippine Star. The United Nation’s Development Programme (UNDP) supports NGOs and collectives in the region, and hopes to bring governmental awareness to the industry and decrease the number of workers. Cases of abuse and violence are growing among sex workers.Because of the stigma associated with prostitutes, they’re not often legally recognized or given access to health services.
