Thai Editor Gets 10 Years in Jail for Defamation

A prominent Thai magazine editor and journalist was sentenced to ten years in prison on Wednesday for defamation. Somyot Pruksakasemsuk allegedly published two articles that defamed Thailand’s monarchy in an anti-establishment magazine. Thai activists and liberty rights groups are condemning the verdict as undermining free expression.

Somyat said he will appeal the verdict but will not seek a royal pardon.
