Hot! US Sperm Bank Faces Lawsuit Over “Perfect” Donor Who Was Actually a Schizophrenic Criminal

A US sperm bank and its distributor are facing a lawsuit concerning a sperm donor who claimed to be pursuing a PhD in neuroscience, but who is in fact a convicted felon and former mental patient. His sperm was used to conceive at least 36 children in the US, Canada and the UK.

As Tech Times reports, sperm bank Xytex and its Ontario distributor, Outreach Health face a $12 million lawsuit for their error.

James Christian Aggeles from Georgia, claimed an IQ of 160, an undergraduate degree in neuroscience and a masters degree in artificial intelligence. An inadvertent disclosure from Xytex revealing his email led to his true identity being revealed.

Three families are suing Xytex and Outreach Health for presenting Aggeles as the “perfect donor.”

The families allege that the companies continued to promote and sell the donors sperm, even after his true background was disclosed.

Legal blogger Jonathan Turley comments:

This is a horrific situation for these women and liability could produce a needed incentive for these companies to better screen donors. It hardly seems reasonable to rely on the representations of donors without further investigation. This is not eHarmony from a sperm bank with lasting implications for women.
