Update on Thailand’s Tourist Courts
Suvarnbhumi Airport in Bangkok is due to open a tourist court on Monday in an attempt to fast track cases for travelers reports The Nation.
The move is believed to make Suvarnbhumi be the only airport around the world to have it’s own court. It will be open for 24 hours a day and will be run from the Samut Prakan provincial court. Airports of Thailand chairman Sita Divari said he saw the court as a way to improve services, which must be done along with some operational adjustments after the accident involving a Thai Airways plane that skidded off a runway last Sunday.

It has been confirmed that both parties agreed that the insurance company would pay Bt1.3 million to each victim’s family, while the speedboat owner would pay Bt1 million to each victim’s family. The families accepted the compensation money in front of the court and confirmed they wouldn’t sue for further compensation.
However the case’s criminal code procedure remains separate and would continue under the usual justice system.
