Advocacy Group Wins Trans Gender Identification on Birth Certificates in Puerto Rico
An advocacy group, Lamda Legal had filed a case against the Governor and Department of Health in Puerto Rico last year after they denied transgender people to change their identification on their birth certificates.
The court order had stated that disclosing the plaintiff’s transgender status would “violate their right to informational privacy”. Lambda Legal had argued that Puerto Rico’s policies were inconsistent with their other laws allowing people to modify their gender on other forms of I.D.

On Wednesday, the advocacy group had announced that the government has agreed to amend the current laws to allow transgender people to change their gender on birth certificates.
