Thailand to Promote 10 Year Visa to Boost Medical Tourism
The long stay visa will be applicable for foreigners aged 50 and above
Chiang Rai Times reports that Thailand is looking to promote a 10 year visa plan in order to boost the country’s medical tourism. The visa is said to be applicable to foreigners above the age of 50.
According to the report, the visa will initially be valid for five years, after which it can be renewed for an additional five years. The visa fee is set at ฿10,000 ($400).
The plan also includes a 90 day visa exempt for patients coming from nearby countries such as Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Chiang Rai Times also reported that target countries for the medical tourism visa are Australia, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Taiwan and the United States.
There is an attraction for Western citizens to travel to far flung destinations that offer comprehensively cheaper medical assistance. Medical tourism in Thailand is a booming trade with it contributing to an estimated ฿104m in 2014 alone.
