Thailand Creates Tourist Aid Fund
The Thai Tourism Ministry announced yesterday that it is setting up a 50 million baht insurance fund to aid foreign visitors in distress, according to The Nation.
The fund is part of a larger effort to restore confidence in tourism to Thailand in preparation for the ASEAN Economic Community, a regional, economic integration of ten Southeast Asian nations, in 2015. The Tourism Ministry, working with other agencies, discussed other measures it would take, including improving protection for tourists from scams and swindlers, addressing road safety issues, and enforcing public transport rules.
