South Africa’s High Court Decriminalizes Recreational Marijuana Use
South Africa’s Constitutional Court legalized private marijuana use for adults in a recent ruling.
The ruling is just another win in a plethora of recent victories for marijuana and its advocates after countries like Canada fully legalized weed and countries like Thailand and Korea are closing in on legal medical pot.
According to the judgment, South African adults can use and cultivate weed for recreation as long as they are in a “private place” and use it only for personal use.
The court also stated that a private place extends past the boundaries of a person’s home.
As for knowing whether the amount of weed someone is carrying is for personal use or dealing, the court left the power to determine that up to local authorities.
