Slovakian government has passed a law that effectively prohibits any state from adopting Islam as its religion in the future reports RT.

The law now requires 50,000 members for a religion to be recognized as state religion, a number that is more than double the previous requirement of 20,000.

Sponsored by the Slovak National Party (SNS), the legislation came to vote on Wednesday and was approved by a two-thirds majority from both the ruling and oppositions parties.

Although the Muslim population in Slovakia is a mere 2000 without the presence of mosques, the law will make it almost impossible for Islam to be registered as a religion. Chairman of SNS Andrej Danko said as quoted by Reuters, We must do everything we can so that no mosque is built in the future.”

In other Islam related news, Holland MPs have approved a legislation banning burqas in schools, hospitals and other public transports. 132 out 150 seat holders approved the law which will now go into the Senate for further approval.  This law follows other bans that were recently passed in Belgium and France.
