Saudi Arabia to Allow Women to Drive
Saudia Arabia has announced its decision to lift the ban on women from driving, the New York Times reports.
The decision, which was announced in a royal decree on Tuesday, will take effect in June 2018.
It has been well-received by local women, who have been protesting the ban for many years. Fawziah al-Bakr participated in the very first protest, which took place in 1990, and was arrested for taking part. “Since that day, Saudi women have been asking for the right to drive, and finally it arrived”.

The decision will allow more women to work, and Saudi leaders predict that this will trigger a boost in the economy, as well as improved public relations for the country, which is notorious for its oppression of women.
