Russia’s Putin Signs Law Limiting Adoption By Gays
President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill essentially preventing the adoption of Russian children by people from countries that allow same-sex marriage. The bill also places the same limits on single people and unmarried couples.
The adoption bill dims the hopes even further for the 600,000 Russian children without parental custody. Last year, Russia banned all adoptions by Americans.
Thailand still does not recognize same sex marriage, so it is unclear under Thai adoption law what the position would be if such a couple wished to adopt a child. This grey area was brought to the forefront of discussion in Thailand when Elton John and David Furnish adopted a child, for the lack of such legal recognition under Thai law.
