The Rohingya Crisis, an Ethnic Cleansing?
According to witnesses, the Rohingya people are being burned in their homes, mosques, schools and even shot as they are trying to escape. There is also the issue of mass rape against the women and children.
Many human rights organizations have spoken out against the human rights violations taking place in Myanmar against the Rohingya people including Amnesty International, Aung San Suu Kyi and the UN Security Council. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, has said that he “could not rule out that genocide is occurring”.
However, only a qualified court can make the legal determination whether this crisis is considered an ethnic cleansing.
