Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and other conservative members of the US Senate might be planning another filibuster, this time concerning anti-gun control legislation. Paul, along with Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), sent a letter to Senate Majority leader Harry Reid detailing their opposition to any federal gun control legislation that infringes on the Second Amendment.

Their opposition might come in the form of another talking filibuster, or a silent one. Unlike Paul’s first filibuster, this one would be against even beginning any debate on the issue. According to the Huffington Post, Senate rules require that Reid get broad bipartisan support to move to debate a bill, and if he can’t, he needs unanimous consent. Paul and Cruz are threatening to withhold that consent, hence, the “silent” filibuster.

Reid has been bundling gun control proposals in the past several weeks to create a legislative package to be debated on the floor when the Senate returns after a two-week recess.
