Oklahoma Court: It’s Not Rape if She’s Drunk
In a ruling already causing ripples of outrage throughout the online world, an Oklahoma court has ruled that performing oral sex on an unconscious drunk person is “not sexual assault.”
According to the Guardian, local prosecutors were left “stunned” by the state’s criminal appeals court ruling.
Critics were quick to argue that the ruling is in line with outdated notions about rape and victim blaming.
Legal experts and victims’ advocates suggest the ruling displays “the troubling gaps that still exist between the nation’s patchwork of laws and evolving ideas about rape and consent.”
