Obama administration endorses new Malaysian coalition government
On May 13, President Obama telephoned Prime Minister Najib Razak, leader of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the controlling party in the new Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition government, to offer his congratulations following the announcement of the election outcome. The phone call came despite large scale demonstrations protesting the outcome of the May 5 Malaysian elections as being an nothing more than anti-democratic fraud.
