NYC Mayor Unveils Gun Control Ad Campaign
New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is releasing a $12 million ad campaign to pressure Congress into enacting gun control legislation, reports The Guardian. The advertising blitz will include television commercials in 13 key states where an upcoming Senate vote on the issue will take place.
Bloomberg is the co-chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and a staunch advocate for strict gun reform. The National Rifle Association (NRA), however, has criticized the move, saying the mayor is attempting to intimidate senators. The Guardian reports that the NRA is likely to launch a counter-campaign to Bloomberg’s ads.

“These ads bring the voices of Americans – who overwhelmingly support comprehensive and enforceable background checks – into the discussion to move senators to immediately take action to prevent gun violence,” said Bloomberg at a press conference.
