No Charges for Activist at Traffic Stop
NY Times | A immigration rights advocate has not been detained after he was arrested on a traffic violation because he did not present a risk to public safety.
Jose Antonio Vargas was stopped on a highway because he was driving with headphones on, his lawyers said. He was arrested after police officers checked his drivers license and found it had been revoked by authorities.
Vargas, an immigrant from the Philippines, has been illegally living in the country for years. Agents determined that he did not fit any of the priority categories for detention according to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
