Myanmar Welcomes Credit Card Giant Visa
United States credit card giant Visa is now accepted at select merchants and retailers in Myanmar, according to a statement issued by the company.
The United States had previously barred financial institutions from operating in the country, due to the financial instability of the banking system under the military-led government.
As Myanmar pushed through reforms aimed at fixing its battered financial system, the U.S. eased restrictions. Visa began rolling out ATMs in the country in December.
