Migrant Workers Can’t Be Nanny in Thailand, Only Thais
Sumeth Mahosot, the director-general of the Employment Department, said that the job of nanny is an occupation only for Thais, not for migrant workers, according to the Bangkok Post.
The announcement was made by Mahosot after Dr. Duangporn Asvarachan, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital’s deputy director, “expressed concern about the influence nannies and domestic helpers from different cultural and social environments have on a child’s development,” reports the Bangkok Post.
The cabinet’s new resolution dictates that migrant workers in Thailand, specifically Myanmar, Lao, and Cambodian nationals, can only work as domestic helpers, not as nannies.
