Men Arrested in Egypt for Raising Rainbow Flag
Seven men have been arrested in Egypt for raising a rainbow flag at a concert, according to ABC News.
They have been charged with ‘inciting immorality’. While there are now laws against homosexuality in the country, the subject is highly taboo, and authorities have been known to use ambiguous charges like ‘blasphemy’ and ‘debauchery’ to punish people for it. The men raised the flag at a concert by a Lebanese band named Mashrou’ Leila, whose singer is openly gay.
