Russia will introduce fines for incorrect labeling of genetically modified food, reports Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The announcement comes from Russia’s Government Legislative Commission in response to a proposal from consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor.
If GMOs are not correctly marked individuals could be fined 20,000 to 50,000 rubles ($550 to $1,400), and companies could be fined 100,000 to 150,000 rubles ($2,800 to $4,160), according to RIA.
