Thai Attorney Acknowledged for Human Rights Work by the US State Department in Washington
On Friday, Human Rights Lawyer, Sirikan Charoensiri attended the 2018 International Women of Courage Award Ceremony to receive a recognition for her work with the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights organization, an organization that she helped co found.
TLHR was set up after the junta took power in 2014, she knew their control would not be a temporary one and made sure that all human rights violations, especially in the south of Thailand, were properly documented for advocacy of human rights.
The US State Department commented that due to Charoensiri’s sensitive work, her and her staff, have often been subjected to intimidation and criminal charges.
Charoesnsiri currently faces a sedition charge in Thailand for defending student activists.
