Burma (Myanmar) hosted the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia last week reports the World Socialist Web Site. It is hoped that this will help to promote the country as a new “frontier market” for international investment.
The WEF involved 1,000 participants from 50 countries. Several US, European and Australian oil and gas corporations were noteworthy attendees.
This is an event that simply would not have happened as little as two years ago, when Burma was subject to US-led sanctions.
