A Transgender student has won a lawsuit against his high school, Kenosha in Wisconsin, where they allegedly discriminated against him. The discrimination came in the form of banning him from the male toilets, singling him out on school trips and calling him by female pronouns. Ash Whitaker adds that he would just avoid using the bathroom altogether.

The discrimination had caused him “severe depression and anxiety” as a result. Winning the case meant that he could empower other Trans youth lives to live authentically. Whitaker’s Attorney hopes that the win will cause other school districts to take precaution with how they deal with Trans students.

Kenosha’s Attorney stated against the lawsuit that Whitaker had always been treated fairly under the law at the high school. They gave into the settlement as the fees were mounting but denies the allegations. They had attempted to get the Supreme Court to overturn the rulings allowing Whitaker to use the male facilities.

The settlement now allows Whitaker, who is a freshman at college to use the male facilities if he were to return on campus as alumni or a community member.
