Owning an online business in Thailand is very much a niche market. Whereas internet shopping is extremely popular in western countries, spending money online is still somewhat of a novelty for most Thai people to the extent many do not believe it is a safe process.
An online company however can be a savvy way for companies to save tremendous amounts on overheads, allowing in turn such savings to be passed onto the customer.
Anna from thailawforum recently interviewed Martin Toft Sorensen of online clothing company, Wear You Want about owning a business in a nice market in Thailand. WearYouWant.com is Thailand`s largest online fashion community, offering thousands of branded product lines across womenswear – including dresses,shoes, accessories, bags, skirt, cosmetics and glasses – and menswear, including jeans, t-shirts, shoes and shirts. They also stock international brands such as Coach,Levi’s, Esprit, Super, Converse, and Nike.Delivery is worldwide, and in Thailand payment can be given to the driver upon receipt of goods.
Anna and Martin discussed what kind of marketing methods they implemented, and the challenges and obstacles it faced, not least given the present political situation occurring in Thailand.
