A landmark law was passed this week in Vietnam enabling greater rights for transgender people, which experts say may open up the possibility for gender reassignment surgery in the country.
As Bangkok Post writes, sex-change operations are illegal in Vietnam, meaning those who want to undertake the surgery must travel to Thailand.
American family lawyers in Bangkok Chaninat and Leeds have spent decades managing family legal matters in Bangkok.
The new legislation will mean those that have already undergone gender reassignment can register under their new sex.
The law will be in effect from early 2017.
