Utah Law Requires Parenting Classes for Divorce

by Admin on April 8, 2014

KUTV reports that Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has signed into law a proposal to help more of the state’s couples save their marriages.

The new measure would require that divorcing parents who have children under 18 to take a class before a court may grant custody or financial orders.  Classes would focus on the effects  of a divorce on children.  The intended objective of the law is to discourage divorce and preserve the family unit.

Thailand divorce attorney, Jiraporn Thongpong comments, “Although the proposal is an interesting idea, most of our clients would not have the time to take a class. Also, if a marriage has deteriorated to the point where a divorce has been filed, I doubt that a class would change their minds”.”

The law goes into effect July 1 2014.
