US Gun Law: “Fast and Furious” used to promote US gun regulations

by Admin on December 9, 2011

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is facing allegations that its infamous “Operation Fast and Furious”, in which the ATF authorized US gun dealers to seen firearms to suspected gun traffickers for drug cartels in Mexico, allegedly as a means of tracking down cartel leaders, was a ploy to promote heightened gun regulations inside the US. The ATF’s ploy represents a highly manipulative attempt to violate US citizens Second Amendment right to bear arms, at the expense of victims of drug-related violence.

Emails released by the media demonstrate that the ATF used the gun sales it encouraged to justify the gun regulation “Demand Letter 3”, which requires a number of American gun dealers to report the sale of multiple rifles. The ATF reported that the regulation focused on guns “most used to commit violent crimes in Mexico, especially by drug gangs”, despite the fact that the ATF itself had encourage the sales of these types of guns used in the aforementioned violent crimes.

While Thailand allows residents and citizens to own guns,Thailand gun law also has its own regulations. For more information on gun ownership in Thailand, speak to a Thailand lawyer.

The ATF’s assult on the rights of US citizens is in keeping with the US government’s recent attempts to curtail the liberties of American citizens. More recently, Congress approved the National Defense Authorization Act, which effectively allows US citizens to be held in military detention, in violation of their rights of due process and habeus corpus.
