US Court Of Appeal Rules Obama Administration Can Force Journalist To Reveal Source

The US Court of Appeal, has ruled that the New York Times Reporter, James Risen can be ordered to testify against former CIA officer, Jeffrey Sterling.

The World Socialist Web Site has reported that  the US Court of Appeal has agreed that the US Government has the power to jail journalists who refuse to reveal their sources. The decision is widely considered to go against the vein of the First Amendments freedom of press.

A pattern however is slowly beginning to emerge of the ever increasing hold the Obama administration is gaining over members of the public, and the steps they can legitimately take to stop anyone leaking what they consider to be sensitive information to the public. This administration has taken more steps than any previous US government to stop people whistle blowing or leaking sensitive information. It has jailed seven people in total for breaking the Espionage Act, 1917, more than any other administration.

It is likely the judgement will be appealed to the US Supreme Court.
