The US State department has been accused of “diplomatic impropriety” after Valentina Matvienko, the speaker of Russia’s upper house of parliament was granted a limited US visa, reports Sputnik.
Matvienko is due to head Russia’s delegation to the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament at the UN headquarters, however the visa issued to her will mean she cannot.

Speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament Sergei Naryshkin told reporters on Friday:
“I cannot but address another rudeness on the part of the US State Department. The limits and standards of diplomatic impropriety are being set today in Washington.”

He continues:
“Such a shameless violation of international law as the decision of US authorities to impose visa restrictions on the Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko is just another example of this.”
