There is no clear translation of Kreng Jai in English. In general, it can be described as a being polite attitude of respect and consideration for others. However, Kreng Jai which literally means “fearful heart” is an attitude of seeking to avoid conflict or inconvenience of another person, particularly one who is higher in social status.
