UK Government Protects Sex Workers by Legalizing Brothels

The UK government is working towards decreasing the homicide rate of sex workers, which have been 152 in the past half a century. Under current law, prostitution is legal but soliciting for sex is not. Therefore, with no brothels to turn to, prostitutes are left to work the streets in out of the way locations leaving them vulnerable to attack.

The new law aims to provide more protection for UK sex workers. However, the law will be implemented after a year long inquiry from the Home Affairs Office as more evidence is needed to see who is at risk. The office will invest 150,000 pounds into the mission.

The UK government is working to decriminalize the sex trade as “treating soliciting as a criminal offense” has had the opposite effect.
