The new US law which bans goods that were made via forced labor may directly affect Thai exporters
Earlier this year, Barrack Obama signed a law which prohibits the import of all goods that have been produced using forced labor into the US. Bangkok Post reports that this may pose a problem for Thai- labor intensive industries because their workforce mostly comprises of migrant laborers whose use might be deemed unfit in accordance with the new law.
According to Bangkok Post, there are several non-registered or illegal migrant workers even though it is considered a criminal offence in Thailand due to the Thai government’s relaxed regulation of the country’s labor regulations.
