by Admin on November 18, 2017

The plaintiff, who is referred to as Jane Doe, alleges that discrimination and abuse she has suffered in prison is a violation of the American with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the Equal Protection and Due Provess clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment.

According to Jurist, a transgender woman has filed a lawsuit against the Massachusetts Correctional Department for unfair treatment she has suffered in a men’s prison.

During her time in prison, she has been forced to stay in a male correctional facility, be stripsearched by male officers, and suffer harassment at the hands of other inmates, who refuse to address her using female pronouns.

The lawsuit details Jane Doe’s gender dysphoria, for which she has been receiving treatment for forty years. It also speaks of her fears of suffering mental or physical harm during her time in prison.
