Transgenders May Face Jail for Lying About Gender

4946318398_31d96e97c4_o Britain’s transgenders could face jail if they don’t disclose their birth gender before sex.

 

British law may allow for filing of rape charge based on Tran’s person’s gender history not being disclosed to their sex partner pursuant to the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Academics and lawyers met during a recent conference to discuss the current sex laws in the UK, and revealed that the Sexual Offences Act 2003 has been arranged in such a way that it can be used to penalize transgender people.

Grietje Baars, a senior lecturer in law at City University London has said; ‘Judges have twisted the law to fit personal prejudice. There is much contradiction in their rulings.’ The last critical review of sexual offences was more than 15 years ago.

The Crown Prosecution Service in England and Wales stated that it won’t ‘automatically prosecute a trans person where sex by deception is alleged. They will treat cases on their ‘merits’, leaving the option to prosecute open’.

The Trans-justice Conference was hosted by Garden Court Chambers in association with Birkbeck University and City University London on Friday 20 May 2016.
