One of the world’s most famous beaches, Maya Bay in Thailand, will remain closed until mid-2021, according to The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

Maya Bay was initially closed to tourists last year in order to let its ecology recover.

In peak season, Maya Beach regularly saw up to 5,000 tourists visit its 250 meters long beach.

The tourist hordes who swarmed to the idyllic beach destroyed lots of the wildlife and coral.

Thai attorneys assist individuals who’ve been blacklisted from Thailand due to a criminal conviction or visa overstay get their ban dropped.

Maya Bay gained world-famous status in the year 2000 after the release of the film The Beach starring Leonardo Dicaprio, which was partly shot on location there.

The national park’s committee said that the extension of the closure is necessary due to the need for protection of the habitat as well as other tourist infrastructure measures such as bathrooms, a dock, and residence for park officials.

Time limits for tourists and a total cap of 2,400 tourists per day will also be implemented.
