Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called for the integration of CCTV camera networks across the country. According to FutureGov, Shinawatra wants related agencies to find ways to combine “different CCTV camera networks and mapping systems that are now under the operation of different agencies.”
There are more than 40 agencies that currently own and manage cameras across the country. The agencies have different maps and data that do not overlap or match each other. Shinawatra would like to see all of the networks integrated into one that could more easily monitor emergency or disaster situations.
Shinawatra’s plea for an integrated camera system is reminiscent of surveillance tactics in the United States. The U.S. is known for their domestic and international surveillance drones, concerning many Americans who say the spy drones are a violation of their Fourth Amendment, which protects citizens from search and seizure.
