Thailand and Cambodia agreed on Tuesday to quash “rumors” of a crackdown on illegal migrant workers by the junta following the exodus of nearly 180,000 Cambodian laborers reports The Bangkok Post.
“The reports about shootings, the reports about other abuses are rumors and are not true, it’s been taken out of context. We agreed to work together in order to clarify any issues,” said Eat Sophea, the Cambodian ambassador to Thailand.

The Bangkok Post reports that The International Organization for Migration had previously estimated that around 180,000 undocumented Cambodian workers live in Thailand. It is unclear exactly how many now remain in the country.
The news comes in light of Thailand announcement last week that it planned to legalize all alien workers so they would not continue to be victimized by human traffickers.
