Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha warned recently that patients interested in using medical cannabis to not rely too heavily on the drug.
On top of saying that medical marijuana won’t cure diseases, he also cautioned that it could make the ailment worse in the long run.
Late last year, Thailand became the first Southeast Asian nation to legalize medical marijuana nationwide.
The rollout of prescriptions for medical weed will commence next month, with over 400 doctors and 2,900 traditional Thai medical practitioners having been certified to prescribe the newly legalized medicine by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Prayut also stated that authorities need time to fully research cannabis extracts to make sure they are ready for medical consumption.
He also remarked that further regulations on medical cannabis could be in line further down the road to make sure it is used safely as a treatment for diseases such as Parkinson’s and epilepsy.
