Cambodia’s Defense Minister and Thailand’s Prime Minister met on Wednesday to discuss possible cooperation on the exchange of fugitives between the countries. The leaders agreed to both countries keeping a close eye on those who cross the border in escape of the law.
The discussion has spread fear among Cambodians “fleeing a crackdown”, says labor rights advocate Moeun Tola. He also expresses concerns that the agreement may lead to further human rights violations. He adds that if the agreement purely targets criminals than it is beneficial however, politically motivated charges should be taken into account.
