Ch-Aviation reports that the Thai cabinet approved amendments to the Thai aviation laws last month to enable the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand to get the country’s aviation sector compliant with international safety requirements.
According to the report, “The amended Civil Aviation Act is part of Thailand’s strategy to address thirty-three shortcomings identified by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) and have its Serious Safety Concern lifted.”
The new measures include “recertification of all commercial operators using amended legislation and laws.” Bangkok Airways have announced that they have completed the process and twenty-two other airlines are expected to do so as well.

A committee will also take over issuing of certificates that was previously handled solely by the transport minister thereby easing the process.
Another important measure being introduced is freeing up of ownership rules. The government has set no limit “on the portion of an airline that can be foreign-owned, or its share structure,” a move meant to attract foreign investors to Thailand.
