Thai authorities have busted two separate slot machine warehouses in Thailand’s Sadao district.
In total, the 5th Infantry Regiment task force seized 159 slot machines from the two buildings.
According to Thai officials, the gambling machines were not being used in the shops but were awaiting shipment to other parts of Thailand.
Thai police also believed that the slot machines had been smuggled across the Thai-Malaysian border.
According to leading Thailand attorney Jitsopin Narasettapong, casino gambling including slot machines has been illegal in Thailand since the Gambling Act of 1935 was passed.
Despite the prohibition, online and underground gambling is still a major problem for police in the country, with raids on illegal gambling rings occurring quite often.
Those from Thailand seeking to gamble legal must go to neighboring Cambodia where casino gambling is legal.
According to reports, Myanmar is nearing full legalization for casinos as well, which would leave Thailand as the last Southeast Asian nation without legal casinos.
