According to The Guardian, a 17-year old immigrant being held in federal custody has been granted permission to have an abortion.
The decision came after an appeal to a previous ruling that temporarily blocked her from having the procedure.
The teen, whose name has been withheld, entered the US in September and didn’t find out that she was pregnant until she was remanded in federal custody in Texas. At this stage, she’s 15 weeks pregnant.

Last month, a state court order granted her permission to have an abortion, but federal officials refused to temporarily release her. Lawyers for the Department of Health and Human Services stated that “refusing to facilitate” abortions is standard policy and that releasing the teenager would require follow-up care as well as transport.
On Friday, the appeals court ruled that the teen has until 31st October to release the teen in order to allow her to have an abortion outside of government custody.
