bus crash in southern Thailand on Tuesday has left 10 people dead. Of the 10 people, one was an Indian tourist while several other foreigners were injured when the bus ran into an electricity pylon.

According to police findings the tourist bus was traveling from Bangkok to Phangan when it hit a traffic island, plowed into the electricty pole and flipped over.

“Ten people died at the scene, five men and five women, and 17 people were wounded,” Colonel Suriya Nakkeao, superintendent of Kanchanadit district police, told AFP.

A Surat Thani tourist police officer confirmed that “two British, two Indians and two Luxembourg nationals” were among the 17 people injured, all of whom were in a “serious condition.”

Jiraporn Thongphong, a Thai personal injury attorney with the firm of Chaninat and Leeds, states that bus injuries and deaths involving tourists occur periodically in Thailand. Attorneys representing the injured passengers or their families are able to receive compensation through settlement or through a complaint filed with the Thai Court.

Normally the persons repsonsible for the accident, their representatives or their insurance companies will approach the vicitms first. It is important for accident victims and their families to understand that these individuals do not act for the victim but for the responsible parties and the defendants.

Vicitms should contact qualified Thailand personal injury attorneys before speaking to, signing documents or accepting payments or gifts from any agent or insurance company connected to the accident.
