Ohio Justice William O’Neill hopes for legalization of recreational marijuana
Ohio Supreme Court Justice William O’Neill has called for the legalization of marijuana and the release of all inmates that are currently serving time for nonviolent marijuana related offences.
According to NBC4i, O’Neill who is rumored to be running for Governor said in a recent speech that legalization and prisoner release would generate $350 million, money that could be used towards rehabilitation centers for drug addiction.
“The time has come for new thinking,” O’Neill said. “We regulate and tax alcohol and tobacco and imprison people for smoking grass.” He added that addiction should be treated like the disease it is.
Medical marijuana was legalized in Ohio in 2016 but legal sale has yet to be established.
