Single Father Households In The US On The Rise

by Admin on July 11, 2013

According to the newly released Pew Report, the rise of single fathers has increased a by ninefold since 1960. A record 8% of households with young children in the US  are headed by a single parent father, up from just over 1% in 1960.

This is an important piece of research as many fathers who are separated from the mothers of their child(ren) believe they have no rights. As Thailand family lawyers this is a question we are often asked, and in exceptional cases involving very young infants we have found this not to be the case.

Under Thailand child custody law both parents of a child have full custodial rights. However, legal issues often surround the finding of paternity. In other words, Thailand law requires that a father be the “legal” parent, as well as the biological parent, to have father’s rights. Legal paternity differs from mere biological fatherhood.
