The news that Simon Cowell is allegedly due to become a father with supposed mistress Lauren Silverman has been hitting the headlines over the last week.
However, Cowell’s recent alleged indiscretions are technically punishable by New York divorce law which make adultery a criminal offence reports TMZ. If found guilty, Cowell could face up to three months in prison.
Cowell has also been named in the divorce papers served on Mrs Silverman by estranged husband, Andrew.

New York is a mixed state that allows for both no-fault and at-fault divorce. In an at fault, one party accuses the other of a wrongdoing (the ‘fault’). An at fault divorce can be obtained due to the following:
- Cruel and inhuman treatment
- Abandonment for a continuous period of one year or more
- Imprisonment for more than three years subsequent to the marriage
- Adultery
Generally speaking, if you or your spouse is currently residing in Thailand you can file for a divorce under Thailand law. If a spouse will not agree to a divorce then a divorce “for cause” must be lodged with the Court. Grounds for divorce must be asserted and a personal appearance in court is required.
