Second UK Secret Court Jailing

Concerns about Britain’s alarming shadowy network of secret courts continues. Britain’s move towards becoming a police state has a particular impact on individual human rights and demonstrates a complete lack of due process in cases which have such serious outcomes. Reports of secrets arrests and secret court hearings clearly undermines the openness of the British Justice system – after all a person’s liberty is one of the most, if not the most, important basic human right.

As we reported just only last week Wanda Maddocks was jailed trying to remove her father from a care home.   It has now been revealed by the Daily Mail that46 year old British father, Garry Johnson was jailed for six weeks by a secret UK court for the shocking crime of wishing his son Happy Birthday on Facebook, even though his son lives with him. Simarlily to Ms Maddocks, Mr Johnson  was also not arrested prior to his court hearing, nor was he represented by a lawyer.

Explaining the decision, the Court said Mr Johnson had breached a gagging order which prevented him from publicly naming his son. The bizarre order was granted following his acrimonious divorce eight years ago, and prevents Mr Johnson from publicly naming either of his sons despite them both living with him.
