The Russian government has passed an anti-doping law that will criminalize any doping activities by coaches and medical staff reports RT.

The law, which was adopted by the Russian parliament on Thursday, will go for approval to the Federation Council and President Putin before it comes into effect.

Under the law, “the inducement to use any substances or methods that are prohibited in sport” will be fined up to 300,000 rubles ($4,700) and the person will also be barred from any sporting activities for a period of three years.

The law also stated that if a group of people committed the crime by preliminary agreement, the fine would be 500,000 rubles ($7,700) and if the doping led to the death of an athlete, the person/persons will receive a 3 year imprisonment.

This law comes in response to a doping scandal in 2015 where the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) suspended Russia from all track and field events due to widespread doping. Russia was also banned from entering the Paralympics because of state sponsored doping.
